Great Hollow Middle School’s sixth grade ELA class worked on an important Veterans Day lesson, created by Mrs. Jakubowsky and Mrs. Baumeister.
The students were read a story titled, "America's White Table." The story is in honor of Veterans Day, and describes how in mess halls across the U.S., a white table was set up in honor of all service members fallen, missing, or held captive in the line of duty. Each item placed on the table is symbolic and is described in the story. After students read and discussed the story, Mrs. Baumeister and Mrs. Jakubowsky asked them to set up a white table, which is now on display in the library.
Students then used Canva to create their own white tables and added symbolic pieces to their tables. After sharing their slides, students wrote a reflective piece.
